As an integral part of our global DevOps team, An SRE is required to help an in-house technology team build, support and improve their suite of global investments systems. They will help to optimise the path to production, create fixes and enhancements and provide the automation skills necessary to move towards a Continuous Delivery model; by building monitoring, alerting and self-healing capabilities into applications.

Background:

LGIM’s Investments Technology team (called Nexus) build and operate a family of bespoke software applications for a growing global investments business.

Dimensions:

The Nexus team are delivering the applications and the underpinning microservices to support the business using AWS cloud technologies. The core technologies used by the team are Java, .NET Core and Python, increasingly deployed within AWS and using containerisation.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Support production systems
    • Resolve 3rd line issues
    • Take a production issue and remediate, follow it through to production
  • Management of Continuous Integration environments
    • Help support pipeline tools such as Nexus, Jenkins and SonarQube
    • Optimisation of build and deployment processes
  • Managing Application & Development Environments
    • Across a mixture of physical and cloud-based environments
  • Develop systems
    • Work on fixes and improvements of existing systems
    • Work on shared tools, libraries and platforms
  • Increase maturity in Continuous Delivery
    • Working with Infrastructure, DevOps and Development teams
      • Promoting and increasing automation
      • Converging our teams on a streamlined set of tools & processes
  • Facilitate Technical Roadmaps
    • Be involved in upgrade and maintenance work across systems
    • Resolve technical blockers and liaise with Infrastructure teams

Primary Skills:

  • Strong and proven Java skills (Java 8+)
  • Linux and networking fundamentals
  • Experience of containerisation, ideally using Docker
  • Experience of continuous integration tooling, ideally using Jenkins, Maven, Nexus & SonarQube
  • Experience with AWS; EC2, RDS (Aurora), Elasticache and other managed services
  • An appreciation of Java / JVM-based application internals and debugging
  • Monitoring with Prometheus & Grafana or similar
  • Experience across the entire stack: hardware, application and network.
  • Experience with continuous deployment

Desirable Skills:

  • Supplementary languages (.NET, Python, Go, Julia)
  • Knowledge of container orchestration using Kubernetes and Openshift
  • Experience of agile software development methodologies and environments
  • Distributed Tracing
  • SQL and database tuning, troubleshooting (preferably PostgreSQL)
