The Investment Guidelines Management function is responsible for all investment guideline drafting covering segregated portfolio/policy activity, with the following accountabilities:

 

Identify and reduce implementation risk by co-ordinating investment guideline activity across all asset classes:

  • Develop a suite of succinct and clear templates across LGIM’s fund management teams which articulate activity LGIM accommodates as standard (including for new strategies), working within the legal, regulatory, operational and risk and control constraints.
  • Work with stakeholders to pro-actively move clients towards standard activity
  • Act as business guardian ensuring risks are considered by the appropriate decision-maker and ensure necessary checks are carried out prior to committing to activity;
  • Support the team in maintaining a focus on attention to details present and details omitted.
  • Where applicable, design and implement procedures to improve the control environment

 

Demonstrate investment competence: Establish familiarity with markets and LGIM systems to ensure guidelines work for fund managers.

 

Engage with stakeholders and clients:

  • Develop strong internal working relationships to strengthen the control environment around investment guidelines.  Anticipate implications for stakeholders and seek to resolve potential downstream issues.  Chair internal meetings with key stakeholders to ensure effective decision-making.
  • Attend client meetings/calls as required, demonstrating a collaborative attitude and articulating how client objectives can be achieved within template and business constraints.

 

Build the team:

  • Identify training needs and support team members to self-train and cross-train where there are knowledge and behaviour gaps to effectively support guideline writing across the investment teams.
  • Ensure the team manage workflow, which covers multiple projects from simple amendments to complex projects, within agreed timelines.

Academic Qualifications

Strong academic background

Degree qualified (preferably 2.1) or equivalent
 
Technical/Professional Qualifications IMC

Other investment qualifications such as CFA, FIA

Experience

Experience implementing institutional investment solutions, including drafting investment guidelines

Demonstrable track record of building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels

Experience delivering exceptional service to institutional clients

Experience drafting broader legal documentation and risk policies

Working in or with a range of asset management functions such as legal, compliance, risk functions, cash/collateral management, performance

Training and presenting
Specialist knowledge/skills

Strong overall investment and product structure knowledge, including LDI solutions and the mechanics of OTC and ETD derivatives

The ability to communicate, influence and operate at a senior management level, including presenting complex ideas simply to facilitate effective decision-making

Detailed Institutional Investment product knowledge such as cashflow-driven, index funds factor-based

Knowledge of project management and documentation management best practice
