In relation to identified areas of accountability, proactively work directly with all levels of management to ensure the identification and assessment of the impact and likelihood of operational risk across the business through the application of risk policies, procedures and supporting systems to ensure the effective monitoring and management of risk.

General Accountabilities:

  • In relation to identified areas of accountability, proactively work directly with all levels of management to ensure the identification and assessment of the impact and likelihood of operational risk across the business through the application of risk policies, procedures and supporting systems to ensure the effective monitoring and management of risk.
  • Implementing and overseeing an Operational Risk framework; Monitoring, reviewing and reporting to the Board on the effectiveness of or deficiencies in the Operational Risk framework.
  • Oversight of Delegates and Service Providers to ensure appropriate risk policies and procedures and business continuity plans are in place, receiving and reviewing regular reports on Delegate performance, and in particular on errors, breaches and other operational risk matters.
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of the processes and systems for identifying, controlling and reviewing key operational risk and control deficiencies and for ensuring appropriate action is taken by management.  
  • Undertake risk reviews and due diligence visits on delegates and service providers to LGIM MEL as required and ensure education and training on the processes is undertaken where required.
  • Partnering with and acting as the point of contact between LGIM MEL and the LGIMH Operational Risk Management team to consider and report on LGIM MEL issues at a Group level, and ensure Group wide policies and procedures are adopted by LGIM MEL.
  • Report on an ongoing basis on key business risks and significant control deficiencies in order to meet internal needs, and legal and regulatory requirements. 
  • Maintain and develop the working relationship with internal clients in the business and pro-actively developing risk indicators and reports for management.
  • Produce regular and ad-hoc internal controls and risk reports for internal clients, as required, managing with auditors and management the resolution of any emerging requirements.
  • Act as a key operational point of contact for internal and external audit with management, ensuring recommendations are comprehensively reviewed and implemented. 
  • Work alongside the Compliance function in assessing and pursuing the risk implications of regulatory requirements. 
  • Review operational risk events to understand root causes, process deficiencies and control. Escalate Operational Risk Events / Identified Control Gaps and Issues on a timely basis.
  • Promote a strong risk culture
  • Engage with Company and Group entities -wide projects as required.
  • Subject to Regulatory approval, to act as Designated Person for Operational Risk and fulfill all related duties incumbent on this position as described in the Central Bank Fund Management Company Guidelines.

 

Regulatory Accountabilities:

  • Subject to Regulatory Approval, Act to as designated person for Operational Risk and fulfill all relevant requirements.
  • Confirmation of Compliance with the Central Bank of Ireland Fitness and Probity Standards (Code issued under Section 50 of the Central Bank Reform Act, 2010).

 

  • Strong academic background ideally with relevant post graduate or technical qualifications
  • Challenge: Provides independent, informed, timely and objective challenges in relation to the management of key operational risks..
  • Expertise: Understanding of and ability to implement and develop an appropriate framework for oversight of operational risks and underlying processes for monitoring, managing and reporting on that risk
  • Analytical skills: Ability to quickly disseminate reports, information and other risk MI to identify and report on issues, trends and areas of focus to key stakeholders including the Board.  
  • Relationships: Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including  the Risk Management and Compliance Functions and other teams at LGIM MEL, the Board and, subject to appointment, other designated persons, LGIM H Operational Risk Team, Internal Audit and LGIMH Risk & Compliance, and where required, with external organisations including Delegates and Service Providers of LGIM MEL.
  • Good/deep understanding of operational risk, including management techniques and processes, ideally gained in an investment management or financial services context.
  • Proven track record in an operational risk  or similar role.
