The role holder is responsible for ensuring that MEL embeds and maintains a robust financial control framework and that all financial reporting obligations are completed efficiently in line with applicable accounting standards and rules. Following the transition of CP86 Designated Persons’ responsibilities from the external service provider, MPMF, the MEL Financial Controller role will also incorporate the Capital & Financial Management Designated Persons’ Function.

The role holder is responsible for ensuring that MEL embeds and maintains a robust financial control framework and that all financial reporting obligations are completed efficiently in line with applicable accounting standards and rules. Following the transition of CP86 Designated Persons’ responsibilities from the external service provider, MPMF, the MEL Financial Controller role will also incorporate the Capital & Financial Management Designated Persons’ Function.

  • Work closely with LGIM Finance Operations in Cardiff to ensure that the MEL entity ledgers are maintained effectively in line with applicable accounting standards. Ensure that revenues and costs are booked accurately and that nominal ledger account structures continue to be pertinent to facilitate the effective production of the MEL financial reporting outputs.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial and regulatory reporting both internally and externally, including reporting for the MEL Board as well as audited statutory accounts and CBI financial and capital returns. Liaise with the external auditors as necessary to ensure that any required independent audit requirements are satisfied in an efficient manner.
  • Manage the capital and liquidity position of the MEL entity to ensure prudential requirements are adhered to at all times and that capital and cash positions are optimised. Ensure that regular forecasts are prepared, that excess capital and cash is returned to LGIMH on a timely basis, and that the company’s credit and liquidity risks are effectively articulated and managed.
  • Develop a framework to allow an Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) to be embedded within the MEL governance and financial control framework, ensuring that data is maintained to support an ongoing assessment of the company’s Pillar 2 capital requirement.
  • Contribute to the effective maintenance of LGIM’s overall financial control framework by maintaining strong control over MEL’s balance sheet (including intercompany balances) and cashbook.
  • Maintain close links with the LGIM Finance Business Partnering team in London, keeping abreast of business developments and changes that will impact the MEL company. Use such information to build financial forecasts and business plans and to ensure that the accounting for any business change is undertaken accurately and promptly within the MEL ledgers.
  • Ensure that any regulatory change impacting the MEL financial reporting framework is fully understood and that required process amendments are effectively implemented.
  • As the DP for Capital & Financial Management, provide effective oversight over LGIM teams and third party delegates that are involved in the management of accounting activities for MEL and its funds, in line with CP86 requirements.
  • In conjunction with the Group Tax team, ensure that taxes (including corporation tax and VAT) are accounted for accurately in the MEL ledgers. This will include the preparation of tax computations where MEL establishes tax branches outside of Ireland.
  • Undertake other Finance tasks as necessary, as directed by the Head of Financial Reporting and Operations, LGIM Finance.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Accountancy Qualification:

  • Qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience in a finance or control environment.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of EU, Irish and other regulations impacting MEL’s product set and business.
  • Understanding of L&G and LGIM strategy, key divisions and business functions.
  • Understanding of the LGIM product set, including awareness of product features, characteristics, purpose and profit dynamics
  • Understanding of and ability to interpret and apply L&G Group Policies and Procedures. Understanding of L&G’s risk management philosophy and ability to support the LGIM business in delivery of an effective financial control environment.
  • Understanding of L&G Group’s financial reporting processes and cycle and approval processes
  • Understanding and application of relevant accounting standards. Awareness of key tax legislation.
  • Understanding of investment appraisal techniques, e.g. DCF, NPV, IRR.
  • Ability to use Excel to analyse financial information
