LGIM is looking for a junior developer to join our data development team within Institutional Change to develop, implement and maintain solutions for our enterprise distribution platform Phoenix. Phoenix is a strategic data hub for enterprise data and derived or complex data services, in particular providing investment, accounting and reference data.

The successful candidate will gain extensive experience of the entire software development project lifecycle, with particular emphasis on database and data processing development.

Delivery:

  • Work with other developers to deliver tasks to specification and agreed timelines.
  • Escalate when delivery targets are at risk.

Estimation:

  • Estimate well defined tasks and be able to articulate the breakdown of effort. Identify unknowns and risks. Escalate where estimates need to be revised.

Design:

  • Understand, and where required contribute to relevant component and system designs.

Build:

  • Ensure build adheres to design and specification and that non-functional requirements are met.

Best Practice:

  • Be aware of and implement platform coding standards.

Quality:

  • Collaborate with the BA and QA function to pre-empt, investigate and address defects e.g. clarify requirements, advise on areas that require testing after a change.
  • Be aware of and implement platform quality standards.

Strategy & Architecture:

  • Seek out opportunities to learn about the platform architecture and that of dependent platforms e.g. attend demo's, developer forums, knowledge sharing session.

Business Change & Analysis:

  •  Work with Lead developers and Business Solutions to ensure there is a clear  understanding of the Business Change being requested. Challenge for clarification where there is ambiguity.
  • For Development teams that are required to  collaborate directly with end users (i.e. not via Business Solutions), analyse business requirements and translate these in to delivery tasks.

Organisation & Planning:

  • Maximise efficiency when executing tasks  e.g. start a new task when blocked on an inflight task.
  • Ask for priority calls where the relative ordering of tasks is unclear.

Communication & Behaviour:

  • Communicate delivery progress of all tasks as requested and escalate issues to the Lead Developer or Platform Lead.
  • Keep the Platform Lead informed of progress and ensure tools used to track progress (e.g. Jira) are updated.

Teamwork:

  • Work constructively with other developers, BA's and QA's as required.

Leadership:

  • Provide feedback to Leads in terms of progress and issues.
  • Propose ways of improving the development process and be prepared to carry out any improvement actions agreed and assigned.

 

We are looking for a motivated individual who is keen to learn and combines a broad intellectual curiosity with focus and attention to detail. They need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Graduates, particularly those with Computer Science or Information Systems degree, are preferred.

Must have demonstrable experience with at least one programming language and one database management system including some experience with SQL, preferably gained in a commercial work environment. An understanding of object oriented design principles is desired.
