This vacancy is for a junior solicitor to join LGIM Real Assets in London.  To provide legal assistance on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues that may affect the business of LGIM Real Assets and the funds and limited companies forming part of that business.

To provide legal assistance and exert influence and persuasion to manage legal risk on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues that may affect the business of LGIM Real Assets’ companies. 

This vacancy is for a junior solicitor to join LGIM Real Assets in London.  To provide legal assistance on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues that may affect the business of LGIM Real Assets and the funds and limited companies forming part of that business.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Provide real estate legal advice and transaction support to the LGIM Real Assets property equity funds and transaction teams (working on property acquisitions, development projects, and forward fundings). Some experience of real estate debt (predominantly in the Funds’ capacity as borrower of external debt) would be desirable but not mandatory.
  2. Provide general corporate and commercial legal advice and support to LGIM Real Assets’ business heads, Fund Managers, Asset Managers and Finance, and raise awareness of key issues and risks. The role may also include reporting to relevant boards, monitoring legal developments and other events which are likely to have legal implications for the LGIM Real Assets business and assist in developing strategies for the property funds/corporate.
  3. Advise on fund structures and corporate governance of Real Assets’ funds; draft and negotiate fund documentation including prospectuses and partnership documentation; contribute independently to the various corporate and business development projects that arise within Real Assets as required and negotiate with external advisors in relation to them.
  4. Assist with management of LGIM Real Assets’ external legal panel of advisers.
  5. Advise on and assist in structuring the fund and financing arrangements, with a particular focus on real estate investment.
  6. Support senior business heads on business initiatives e.g. ESG, Public Partnerships, Regeneration, and Internationalisation.
  7. To understand the relevant regulation and policies affecting the LGIM Real Assets business and to liaise with and provide advice to the Compliance function.
  8. Ensure LGIM Real Assets’ compliance with all internal policies and relevant contractual and fiduciary responsibilities including corporate governance procedures.

Experience/Skills Required

The ideal candidate would be a junior real estate solicitor (NQ - 3 years’ PQE) currently working as a lawyer within a financial services/asset management organisation or law firm with a background in transactional real estate (investment and development). Experience of construction matters and fund investment vehicles would be helpful. 

Essential

  • Excellent academic background including 2:1 degree;
  • Current practising certificate in England and Wales;
  • Gravitas, interpersonal and communication skills to communicate in an effective and persuasive manner;
  • Comfortable dealing with all levels of personnel;
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment;
  • Commercial acumen/ability to distil information and identify risk and issues;
  • Demonstrable intellectual flexibility.

 

Desirable

  • Experience in negotiating general commercial agreements and all manner of documentation relating to the acquisition, development and construction of real estate, service agreements and a variety of constitutional and financing arrangements;
  • A basic understanding of asset management, financial services and financing matters;
  • Experience in fund governance, tax and debt finance;
  • Background in Real Estate, Commercial, General Litigation, Tax and Regulatory Law.
