The Release Manager is responsible for planning and controlling the movement of Releases to test and live environments.

The primary objective is to ensure that the integrity of the live environment is protected and that the correct components are released.

  • Forward Plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio.
  • Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality.
  • Measure and monitor progress to ensure releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations.
  • Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates.
  • Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams (internal and external) at different locations.
  • Conduct Release Readiness reviews and Milestone Reviews.
  • Input to Business Go/No-Go reviews.
  • Release Reporting.
  • Communicate release details and schedules to the Business as required.
  • Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities.
  • Maintains the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across key partners and vendors.
  • Continually work towards making improvements in the release process.
  • Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live preparation including the deployment Plans and checklists.
  • Develops scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms.
  • Participate in CAB meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks.
  • Maintain a release repository and manage key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists.
  • Research new software development and configuration management methodologies and technologies and analyses their application to current configuration management needs.

Academic Qualifications

  • Graduate calibre, although degree not essential

Technical and Professional Qualifications

  • ITIL certified practitioner is desirable, demonstrable experience of delivering utilising the ITIL framework is mandatory
  • Demonstrated history of learning, particularly in the IT Infrastructure environment e.g. conferences or specific training courses relating to IT Infrastructure

Experience and Background

  • Demonstrable exposure to 24*7 / Global / Highly Available operations

Competence and Characteristics

  • Sound planning & organisation skills. Target and customer focused, proactive, analytical and a Strong operational service delivery & staff leadership experience
  • Excellent communication skills must have strong problem solving abilities, a technical mindset and the desire and determination to continually drive change and improvement
  • Ability to problem solve, think creatively and adapt quickly to a new and developing type of service delivery

Specialist Knowledge & Skills

  • Good knowledge of Infrastructure and IT Operations for an Institutional Fund Management company
