This role requires – along with the existing IT infrastructure - designing, developing and maintaining smart solutions, in-house applications that are built by the business – not within the firm’s IT capacity

  • Improve and maintain in-house tools and database applications which help the Investment Risk team to monitor investment risk within the active funds and produce customised Investment Risk reports.
  • Help develop and maintain in-house tools and applications that enable the Performance team to produce complex attribution analysis and consistent risk / performance management reporting.
  • Ability to deliver new solutions by enhancing existing infrastructure – rationalising data feeds, excel solutions, calculations.
  • Suggest improvements to the Investment Risk team’s regular processes – including sourcing and quality checking data sets, building, running and distributing reports, and performing ad-hoc analysis of data.
  • Helping in formalising the review, testing and documentation of the on-going enhancements into the Investment Risk’s in-house application (based on Ms Access and SQL Server)
  • Assist the Investment Risk team with the transition to an upgraded SQL Server database environment, especially with regards to testing the impacts of the change.
  • Desire to develop and learn a range of software environments.
  • Gather a great understanding of existing infrastructure and systems within the broader team.
  • Engage closely with IT, DMO (Data Management Office) and DBAs and be a first point of contact in managing the relationship between these teams and Investment Risk
  • Working closely with the Investment Risk and Performance teams

Core Competences :

  • Software analysis and development.
  • Ability to identify, design, develop and maintain solutions that deliver the desired business outcome
  • A methodical approach to problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and recognise dependencies and deliver to deadlines
  • Self-motivated with record of being able to work with limited supervision
  • Excellent time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical, analytical skill set, able to understand the concept of complex asset types, valuations, pricing, performance measurement and investment risk management concepts in detail efficiently and effectively

Essential:

  • Experience of working with relational databases
  • Experience of development within an asset management firm or similar organisation
  • Enthusiasm for smart and efficient solutions.
  • Genuine interest in investments and financial markets.
  • Good technical knowledge of:

      Excel & VBA
      SQL

  • Knowledge of the software development life cycle

Desirable:

  • Experience with SQL Server
  • Experience with MS Access
  • Experience with a software versioning system (e.g. SVN)
  • Good knowledge of market data solutions:

      Bloomberg, MarkIT
