The Compliance Manager will work as part of the Compliance monitoring team and the wider Compliance team to provide high quality compliance monitoring oversight for the LGIM(H) regulated entitites and will also deliver efficient management information, some advisory support and may participate in ad hoc Compliance projects. 

The manager will be expected to help the Compliance Monitoring team  produce and deliver a risk-based Compliance Monitoring Programme using solid risk analysis, to carry out effective surveillance and monitoring reviews to the deadlines, to ensure identified mitigating actions to resolve adverse findings are carried out in a timely fashion, and to produce high quality management information.

The manager will also need to keep up to date with emerging regulatory issues as well as risks, and understand the businesses under scope in order to identify the impact on and changes to the conduct risk profile of these businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Contribute to the creation, implementation and delivery of a comprehensive, risk-based Compliance Monitoring Programme covering all businesses under scope and which reflects all relevant regulatory requirements inpacting these businesses. 
  2. Identify regulatory issues and risks while carring out effective surveillance and monitoring reviews delivered within the deadlines set, and ensure mitigating actions to resolve adverse findings are carried out in a timely fashion.
  3. Maintain detailed knowledge of relevant rules and legislation, analyse developing regulation for impact on the businesses under scope, work with business areas to meet any new regulatory requirements, in the course of normal interactions with these business areas, as part of the Compliance Monitoring Programme’s resolution of findings and in the course of Compliance projects.
  4. Produce clear and to-the-point management information for various groups, boards, committees and team meetings. 
  5. Take responsibility for allocated compliance projects, and as requiredoccasionally representing the Compliance team at committee meetings, business meetings, trade body meetings, seminars and other industry forums.
  6. Support the Compliance Monitoring team in delivering an efficient regulatory risk framework feeding into our risk-based Compliance Monitoring Programme, by ensuring that identified risks are recorded, analysed and taken into account in the delivery of surveillance, thematic and scoping reviews.
  7. Engage with other team members and promote cross training, exchange of information and collaboration.

Good analytical skills and industry awareness including of emerging regulation to identify the impact on the business areas and developing strategies and ability to work proactively with business areas to meet all new regulatory requirements.

Ability to demonstrate a proactive approach while contributing to the development and implementation of a comprehensive, risk-based compliance monitoring programme for each business area which reflects relevant regulatory requirements impacting the business.

Good knowledge of retail and wholesale compliance in an asset management and unit trust management context. Demonstrate high attention to detail and ability to work effectively, both individually and within a team to deliver good quality monitoring reviews on time and ensure mitigating actions are followed up comprehensively and on a timely basis.

Ability to work with other compliance team members and business colleagues to promote a good compliance culture so that regulatory expectations are exceeded.

Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure high quality delivery of management information and presentation in meetings and other forums where the Compliance Manager will represent Compliance.

Ability to work efficiently with colleagues to successfully support the Compliance function and Compliance projects, by proactively developing effective and efficient methods and tools to manage compliance workload and supporting/covering fellow team members on an ad hoc basis.

Demonstrate ability to maintain effective relationships with management and external parties, such as suppliers and outsourcers, to enable the delivery of practical solutions to problems or the implementation of improved systems, processes or controls.

Profile of ideal candidate

Proactive and confident Compliance professional with over 3 years’ experience in a Compliance generalist or monitoring team with good and demonstrable knowledge of both retail and wholesale Compliance preferred. Candidates with relevant but non-Compliance experience will also be considered if skills and knowledge are directly relevant.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, an organised and structured approach to monitoring and excellent analytical and problem solving skills are essential. Data analytics knowledge and associated tools (for example Tableau) is also desirable.

Candidate with good retail compliance specialist knowledge will be considered if they also display a willingness to increase their knowledge of wholesale Compliance.

Industry qualifications are not essential, although would be preferred, for example IMC or CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance). Willingness to take additional qualifications preferred.  Ability to demonstrate continuous and current industry and regulatory awareness is essential.

The candidate should also demonstrate ability to work effectively, both individually and within a team, with great attention to detail, display enthusiasm and a high level of initiative and be a good fit for a dynamic team.
