A DevOps engineer is required to help an in-house technology team optimise their route to production; providing the automation skills to move towards a Continuous Delivery model and help define and maintain its end-to-end technical stack.

The development team is delivering a number of in-house projects to support the UK’s biggest asset management business. The core technologies used by the team are Java, .NET Core and Python, increasingly deployed within AWS.

  • Management of Continuous Integration environments
    • Managing tools such as Nexus, Jenkins and SonarQube
    • Handling upgrades and plugins
    • Controlling permissions
    • Optimisation of builds
  • Managing Application & Development Environments

Across a mixture of physical and cloud based environments

  • Enabling a move towards Continuous Delivery
    • Working with Infrastructure and Development teams
    • Promoting and spreading automation
    • Converging teams on a streamlined set of tools & processes
  • Facilitate Technical Roadmaps
    • Be involved in upgrade and maintenance work across systems
    • Resolve technical blockers and liaise with Infrastructure teams

 

Academic Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience are preferred as minimum.

Business Knowledge/Professional Qualifications:

  • Financial knowledge overall is desired but not a must.

Primary Skills:

  • Current and in-depth knowledge of Amazon’s services including EC2, EBS, ELB and CloudFormation
  • Demonstrate a current knowledge of latest DevOps tooling and practices
  • Experience of containerisation, ideally using Docker
  • Experience of automated software configuration, ideally using Ansible, Puppet or Chef
  • Experience of continuous integration tooling, ideally using Jenkins, Maven, Nexus & SonarQube
  • Strong scripting skills i.e. Bash, Python etc.
  • Experience of automated testing orchestration, using tools such as BDD (Cucumber), SoapUI and Fitnesse
  • Experience of deploying to a public cloud, ideally using AWS
  • RHEL Administration experience
  • An understanding of Java / JVM-based applications

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of building infrastructure within the AWS cloud
  • Knowledge of container orchestration using Kubernetes and Openshift
  • Experience using the following products: Red Hat Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) and JBoss Data Grid
  • Experience in various software development methodologies (Agile, Iterative and waterfall)
  • Virtual Machine Automation Tooling (Vagrant, VirtualBox)
  • Knowledge of multiple cloud providers (Google Cloud Compute, Azure and AWS)
  • Appreciation for distributed / complex event processing
  • Prior experience of (preferable Java-based) development
  • Experience of configuring and using platform monitoring tools
  • Experience with Apache Kafka
