An Automation Lead is required to help an in-house technology team optimise their route to production; providing the leadership and vision to move towards a DevOps-driven Continuous Delivery model for a complex set of integrated business applications.

Deliver automated solutions to problems through the software development lifecycle, considering the following CI, deployment and operation aspects:

  • Build
  • Version Control & Artefact Storage
  • Testing (Unit > Integration > Smoke)
  • Application & Development environment provision & configuration
  • Scaling (horizontal & vertical)
  • Security concerns
  • Logging & Monitoring
  • High availability (Failover, Recovery, Backups)
  • Capacity management

Design & document automation solutions by through the use of documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code:

  • Specify detailed lists of work items for IT Operations and DevOps engineers to follow
  • Help define a “paved road” based on existing applications, platforms, languages and tools used in the automated pipeline
  • Help to create a process for adopting new technologies and automating their use in the pipeline
  • Work to constantly identify new opportunities to automate manual steps, working towards the goal of infrastructure as code
  • Identify lack of automation as Technical Debt and devise ways to pay it off
  • Quality Control delivery from IT Operations & internal DevOps Engineers
  • Quality Control delivery of software into the pipeline from Developers
  • Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art automation tooling
  • Support and develop Developers and DevOps engineers by providing advice and coaching in infrastructure concerns

Academic Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience are preferred as minimum.

Business Knowledge/Professional Qualifications:

  • Financial knowledge overall is desired but not a must.

Skills:

  • Appreciation of DevOps & Continuous Delivery concepts
  • Good understanding of Infrastructure as Code
  • Admin level knowledge of Linux & Windows
  • Good understanding of Networking
  • Able to build and maintain relationships with key IT staff
  • Technical and non-technical (i.e. process-based) documentation
  • Agile software development processes
  • Non-Functional requirements
  • Infrastructure and application architecture
  • Good appreciate of Information security principals
  • Pragmatic, problem-solving outlook
